Vladimir Odoevsky - "Russian Faust", prose writer, philosopher, public figure and mystic. Being a contemporary of Pushkin, Odoevsky was undeservedly forgotten by subsequent generations. Today we again turn to the personality of Odoevsky and his work. Odoevsky considered the main issues of Russian literary and political life through alchemy and ... cooking. He posed a new important question: “What to eat?”, After all, Prince Odoevsky called the entire history of mankind “a description of battles, robberies and migrations resulting from hunger.” Paradoxical thinking also manifested itself in a play written by Valery Pecheikin based on the main works of Vladimir Fyodorovich Odoevsky.
Especially for the play "Man with No Name", composer Petr Aidu created a unique instrument - Panharmonikon, consisting of ten reassembled mechanical pianos.

Time to give the new life
When Gogol Center of Moscow was closed by the regime, Nikita Kukushkin decided that the inheritance of Gogol Center should live and there has to be a way to revive the performance abroad to let it be seen by the world. That’s when he met Irina Paradnaya.
After long months of finding solutions and bringing the team together, almost the same initial team of Gogol Center gathers together from different parts of the world to revive the original work, that was created in Moscow back in 2021.
And the journey begins in Israel. Geseher Theatre opens its doors to the opportunity of showing this performance to the world in June 2023 with the plan to include this piece to the repertoire combined with the world tour.

About Gesher The Jewish Theatre of Israel In 1991, during the first Gulf War, a group of Russian actors under the leadership of Yevgeny Arye, a prominent stage director from Moscow, immigrated to Israel and in a bold move, founded a theatre symbolically named Gesher: 'a bridge' in Hebrew. Gesher is the only theatre of immigrants in the world that has thrived for so long. It is probably the only theatre where rehearsals are conducted simultaneously in three languages and where the same actors perform alternately in Hebrew and Russian. Over the years Gesher theatre has lived up to its symbolic name and has become a bridge between Russian and Israeli cultures. The theatre has incorporated many Israeli actors into its ranks, its productions are currently mostly in Hebrew, it has moved into a permanent home in Jaffa; it has staged over 60 productions, represented Israel in more than 17 international festivals, won numerous awards and was praised by The Times as “one of the greatest and most important troupes in the world”. |
